Good Morning

Firstly, I had intended to do this sort of reflective post before I left campus, but things just got too busy what with finals and packing, so here it is, about a week late.

A few things I learned this year (and not all are from my own personal experience, btw):

  • The “popcorn” button on the microwave always burns the popcorn
  • Don’t give up on a class even if you fail the first midterm – it’s generally still possible to get a B (thank you, grade inflation!)
  • Start studying for an exam well before 24 hours in advance
  • Canceling a print job before it finishes prevents you from being charged for it (bear in mind when using school computers/printers)
  • The things you learn from AlcoholEdu actually have real-life applications…
  • IHUM is called “B-HUM” for a reason
  • MIP’s are not a myth, even on a college campus
  • Beware of sketchy grad students at frat parties
  • Dormcest = trouble

All in all, I’d say it was a good year, and I can’t wait to go back.

…but about Seattle. I may or may not have mentioned this the last time I posted from home, but one thing I really missed while being away at school was going out to all my favorite restaurants. What’s strange though, to me at least, is how long it took me to realize this.

In retrospect I guess it all comes down to how comforting food can be. Seriously. I got tired of the standard dining hall fare pretty quickly, and all I wanted was something familiar that I knew would be good. Because let’s face it: everything in the dining hall very rarely tastes anywhere near as good as it looks. (And sometimes it doesn’t even look that appetizing).

So now that I’m back I plan to hit up all my old haunts.  I’ll try to post about each because I haven’t published nearly as many reviews here as I would like, but we’ll see what happens. Anyways, here’s the list, with addresses if you feel so inclined as to check them out:

  • Moonlight Cafe (1919 S Jackson St)
  • Lalibela Ethiopian Restaurant (2800 E Cherry St # A)
  • Portage Bay Cafe (multiple locations)
  • Than Brothers Restaurant (multiple locations)
  • Veggie Veggie Thai Cuisine (4537 University Way NE)
  • Unicorn Crepes (421 6th Ave S)
  • A Piece of Cake (514 S King St)
  • Trophy Cupcakes and Party (1815 N 45th St)
  • Cupcake Royale/Verite Coffee (multiple locations)

Well that’s it for now. If all goes well this weekend look forward to a special pie recipe for Father’s Day!
